Repairs within 4 days of Lightning Storm
On the weekend, a severe storm ripped through the Gladstone region, bringing with it severe lightning in a very short period of time.
Whilst most of our network stayed online, unfortunately a direct lightning strike to the Biondello tower resulted in damage to our radio access points.
Normally one access point would be bad luck. We suffered two access points and two main backhaul radio failures from the event.
The good news however was that within that day we managed to transfer most customers back online – however a bit slower than normal due to the congestion on the remaining radios.
Within 4 days of the outage, we had orgainised tower climbs and replacement radios to be installed.
Since the beginning of the network build, we have continued to improve and strengthen the network with redundancy and improvements, and whilst we can not do much about the severe weather events, we can make sure that when something does occur we respond quickly to make sure our customers are back online as soon as possible.
